Multi-Pure Filters Can Reduce Cancer-Causing Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water

Water Filter

Disinfection Byproducts (DPBs) are cancer-causing chemicals which may be present in drinking water that has been disinfected with chlorine; Multi-Pure water filters have been tested and certified by NSF to reduce these dangerous chlorine byproducts making your water healthy to drink. DPBs are byproducts from chlorine disinfection; and according to EPA, they can cause cancer and other reproductive and developmental problems. Chlorine is used at the water treatment plants to kill the pathogenic bacteria in water supply so we can enjoy germ-free drinking water. Since we can't see bacteria, it's easy for them to remain in the distribution systems undetected and eventually end up in our kitchen taps and shower heads.

A prescribed amount of chlorine is usually applied at the treatment facility in order for some residual chlorine to linger as water travel within the distribution systems. The excess chlorine or residual chlorine prevents bacteria from growing inside the pipe thus re-contaminating water supply.

However, because the chlorine is added in high concentration, the residual may create unforeseen health threat through the formation of harmful DBPs such as Trihalomethanes (THMs or TTHMs), Bromoform, Bromodichloromethane, Dibromochloromethane. According to EPA, these DBPs are suspected to cause cancer, liver, kidney and reproductive and developmental problems in humans.

So, if in doubt as to whether your water has an unusual amount of BPBs, it's best to check with a portable water test kit or hire a professional lab to test for you. The need for a water filter is even greater now that President Obama's Cancer Panel just recommended the use of filters at home to reduce the chances of ingesting cancer-causing agents like the disinfection byproducts.

Multi-Pure has been in the forefront of this point-of-use filtering technology. Their water filters have been thoroughly tested and are certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) International for reduction of DBPs and other cancer-causing chemicals that may be present in drinking water.
