Crystal Quest Whole House Water Filter Review

Crystal Quest Whole House Water Filter Review

Water Filter

A whole house water filter can be extremely convenient for providing clean and healthy water from every tap in the house. The Crystal Quest 8 stage heavy-duty water filtration system is a good option for anyone considering a whole house unit. Below we will go through the pros, the cons and the important facts you need to know about this whole house water system.

Method of Filtration

This Crystal Quest whole house filter uses eight stages of filtration to ensure the water is crystal clear.

Stage 1 - Removes sediment, silt, sand and dirt.

Stage 2 - Micron filter pad removes suspended particles such as silt, sediment, cysts (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), sand, rust, dirt, and other un-dissolved matter.

Stage 3 - Granulated activated carbon which absorbs chlorine, chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, VOC's, PCB's, MTBE's and hundreds of other chemical contaminants.

Stage 4 - Ceramic balls remove harmful bacteria such as E. Coli, fecal coli form, Salmonella, Streptococcus, cysts and sediment.

Stage 5 and 6 - Water flows through a bed of media made of a special high-purity alloy blend of copper and zinc (KDF-55D). Chlorine, iron and hydrogen sulfide are oxidized into insoluble matter and attach to the surface of the media. All heavy metals are removed in these stages as well.

Stage 7 - Water flows through another one-micron filtration pad to ensure total elimination of contaminants.

Stage 8 - Water flows through a 20" solid carbon cartridge for removing volatile organic carbon compounds.

In other words, the Crystal Quest filtration system truly leaves you with clean water free of almost all contaminants.

Important Facts and Features

The Crystal Quest 8 Stage water filter comes with a pressure release valve, a wall bracket and easy filter changes. As with all whole house water filters it is recommended that a plumber does the initial installation.

The main filter needs to be replaced every 160,000 gallons which is roughly every 1.5 years. This isn't too bad but doesn't compare to the Aquasana whole house water filter which only requires their main filter to be replaced every three years (it lasts twice as long).

Pros and Cons

Pro Crystal Quest Whole House Water Filter:

Compact Removes over 500 contaminants Affordable Provides clean and healthy water clear of bad smells and tastes

Against Crystal Quest Whole House Water Filter:

Main filter needs to be replaced every 1.5 years

Final Thoughts...

I like this water filter unit although it would not be my first choice. The initial investment is very affordable but I fear it would cost more down the road as the main filter needs to be replaced so often. It does however provide very clean water and is compact and reliable.

When searching for the right whole house water filter, it is important to read other water filter reviews as well. Crystal Quest makes a good system but it is still wise to shop and compare to find the right filtration unit for you.
